Short-term rentals in Vancouver
A short-term rental is a home rented for less than 90 days at a time, for example through Airbnb. In Vancouver you can rent short term only the home you live in most of the year (your principal residence), and you need a City business licence renewed every year.
A secondary suite on the same property can be rented short term only if the host lives in the main home. An investment condo or a second home cannot be rented short term. Every listing must show the City licence number and the provincial registration number, and platforms remove listings without them.
A strata corporation can restrict or ban short-term rentals in its bylaws, with fines for every day of breach. Read the bylaws and the latest minutes before you count on any rental income.
Our pages show how many short-term rental licences the City issued in the neighbourhood. The City does not publish their addresses. Rules and fees change: check the City’s short-term rental page before you buy for rental income.
