Building permits in Vancouver

The City issues building permits for new buildings, additions and alterations, demolitions and some repairs. Each record has a type, a date, a project value and a description of the work.

The City’s open permit data starts in 2017, so work done before then is not in it. A permit was issued, but the record does not show whether the work passed its final inspection.

Ask the seller for permits and final inspections for any work you can see, such as a new kitchen, a basement suite or a deck. Work done without a permit can mean extra cost to make it legal, and some insurers ask about it.
