The Vancouver Heritage Register

The Vancouver Heritage Register lists buildings, sites and landscapes with heritage value. Listed buildings are evaluated in categories A (primary significance), B (significant) and C (contextual or character).

Being on the Register alone does not stop changes or demolition, but it can bring incentives such as extra floor area, relaxations or grants, and the City may review changes. A municipally designated building is legally protected: changes need a heritage alteration permit and demolition is generally not allowed.

Some properties also have a heritage revitalization agreement or a conservation covenant registered on title. Ask for the title search and any agreements before you buy.
