Vancouver Heritage Register: what A, B and C mean for a buyer
Figures from City of Vancouver open data, October 21, 2026.
3,287 addresses on our pages are linked to the Vancouver Heritage Register: 564 in category A (primary significance), 1,516 in B (significant) and 1,062 in C (contextual or character). 1,428 are municipally designated.
Listed or designated
Being on the Register alone does not stop changes or demolition, but it can bring incentives and the City may review plans. Municipal designation protects the building in law: changes need a heritage alteration permit and demolition is generally not allowed.
What to ask
- The title search: any heritage revitalization agreement or conservation covenant.
- If you plan to rebuild: designation usually rules out demolition.
- The incentives available for restoration.
